A Scenic Drive to a Peaceful Outdoor Mall Experience - Ashley Park

3/6/2021

Happy Saturday everyone! I hope it’s been a great day for y’all. It was a busy start to the day tackling the Saturday morning cleaning.
  • Aaron and Sydney cleaned their bedrooms. Syd also vacuumed the living room.
  • I scrubbed both bathrooms, washed the towels and bedding.
  • Clint helped the garage door repairman replace the garage door opener.
But after all the cleaning was finished, and lunch was served, Clint wanted to take us on a scenic drive to Newnan, Georgia. He planned for us to revisit one of our favorite Victorian homes and possibly do a little shopping. A few hours get away kind of day. I'm on board for that!

While we were in Newnan we stumbled upon Ashley Park, an upscale outdoor mall area that featured an open-air peaceful shopping atmosphere with water fountains, water falls, benches, and a variety of shops and cafés. It was delightful! I would love to return when the trees and flowers are in full bloom. It's a beautiful place to take a walk, to do a little shopping, enjoy a delightful meal or even just sit down and relax for awhile. It's a great way to spend a few hours on a Saturday. :o)

It's Beginning to Look A Lot Like Spring: Planting Flowers and Seeds, Master Bedroom Renovation Complete, Homeschool Spring Fever

3/5/2021

Hello everybody! I hope y'all are having a great week! It's beginning to look and feel a lot like spring, and that's exciting! I'm enjoying the warmer temperatures, the sights and smells of spring flowers.

I actually took a quick trip up to Home Depot to pick out some cool-weather flowers to plant for spring. Pansies have such vibrant colors. Some varieties have patterns on them that look like faces. My husband calls them monkey faces. We have fond memories of him helping his mother plant tulips along the sidewalk in the front of her house. We remember her beautiful baskets overflowing with pansies that she displayed on her front porch. I thought it would be nice to carry on the tradition.
I don't have a front "porch" like she did, more of just a front entryway, but we can display the pansies in pots out in front of the house.

Hopefully this weekend I'll be able to find a nice spring wreath for the front door too.

Sydney helped me plant some pepper, sunflower, zinnia and marigold seeds for summertime. I still need to plant tomato and jalapeno pepper seeds too.

Clint finished up all of the painting in the master bedroom and bathroom. We still want to order another nightstand, some new curtains and a few other decorations, but the painting is all finished. I love how it turned out! Make no mistake about it, it was a lot of work to get to this point. It cost a good deal of time, money and effort to do this. I am so grateful for all of the hard work that he puts into home renovations. It's worth the effort.

Speaking of hard work, homeschooling is very hard work. Don't get me wrong, it's rewarding and you'll never regret the time and effort that you put into your child's education. It is very important, and of course the time you spend together daily is absolutely PRICELESS... but homeschooling is most definitely a labor of love, and it's perfectly normal to feel that spring fever hit. The longing begins to start for those freer days of summer. Those days are coming. That is how Syd and I are both feeling right now. We are longing to be done with all of the book work, the studying, the assignments, the daily school grind. We've got spring fever bad right now. "Chin up, beautiful. Don't let it get to you." Just keeping it real. We are going to get through this but we are really looking forward to a break... and all the homeschoolers and teachers the world over said "AMEN".

Thanks for stopping by, enjoy your weekend!

Wednesday Highlights: Abeka Academy Homeschool Time with Sydney, Homemade Strawberry Shortcake

2/24/2021

Hello everybody! Today I'm back with a little Abeka Academy homeschool inspiration. Today we are on lesson 104. Mr. Bucy keeps us on our toes in English class. He was teaching the class how to recognize predicate adjectives and how to diagram them. He reviewed the steps of the writing process and introduced the upcoming research paper.  Sydney isn't real thrilled to have to write a research paper on top of all of the other assignments she has due, but it's one step at a time, one day at a time. The project will be broken down into bite size chunks that she will be able to manage. We will get through this. Welcome to 9th grade English! :o)

In health class we reviewed previously taught material on good hygiene practices. We looked over the personal checklist to see where improvements could be made.

Miss Burns was teaching about good oral hygiene. Take good care of those teeth and gums. As it turns out Sydney has an orthodontist appointment tomorrow.

In science class we were learning about transverse and longitudinal waves, compression and rarefaction pulses, wavelength, amplitude and frequency. We were also able to watch another student's science project presentation.

The weather was absolutely gorgeous today, 70 degree sunny weather. I'll take it! We opened up some windows to let the fresh air in. Spring is in the air!

For a special treat I made some homemade strawberry shortcake. It was the perfect complement to go with the fresh strawberries and whipped cream I had in the refrigerator.
