He took his first English/Literature test today and scored a 98%!
A few quick highlights from our last week of August! Syd wanted to practice reciting Hebrews 11:7-10. She has her first oral verse quiz in a few weeks. She also wanted to define the different kinds of sentences using hand motions to help retain the information. She scored an A+ on her first Language test today. This practice really did help her! Aaron started a Geology (the study of the earth) unit in Science. I thought his teacher, Mr. Enders, was clever in using an avocado to compare the three main parts of the earth - the crust, the mantle and the core. This is going to be an interesting unit. He took his first English/Literature test today and scored a 98%! Of course with Aaron in the house, the chalkboard inevitably becomes an artist's canvas. He sent this picture below in to the Disney Infinity community. Jack Sparrow and Davy Jones are characters that Disney Infinity used for their game. Syd continues to improve her speed and accuracy with math facts the old school way. Every day in Arithmetic the first ten minutes of class are devoted to the use of flashcards in building that speed with addition, subtraction and multiplication facts. After working with the flashcards, it's time for a speed drill test. Arithmetic becomes easy if your child knows the facts really well. I marvel at how fast the students in Sydney's class know the facts well and FAST. I have a hard time yelling out the answer to some of the longer combinations before the 9 year old boys do! It is pitiful! :D The only solution I know to combat this weakness is by drilling facts with flashcards, flashcards, flashcards! And now, without further ado, let's start our four day weekend! Y'all know I'm going to be at that pool tomorrow! :D Here's to the little "highlights" in life that make the week worth living for.
