HELP! I need a fun, free, (dare I say...educational) activity for the kids to do on a rainy summer day.
Shh...don't let the cat out of the bag about it being educational. It will be our little secret.
Making tasty treats can add some cheer to the day that seems so drear. Let's take a trip to the library to check out a cookbook for kids, and let them get creative in the kitchen. Look, Syd is on board with this idea! Let's take her and do this thing!
Look what she found! This is going to be great. The recipes in this book are geared more toward parties, but so what. We can have a rainy day party!
It's still raining out, but who cares. Syd is going to make some peanut butter and jelly sushi. That sounds totally terrific!
First order of business...dress for success...or should I say...dress for making a mess. I really need to invest in an apron. An "after the fact" tidbit of advice - tie long hair back so it doesn't get in the way and become jelly-fied...yeah I made that word up...it'll be ok... it works!
Remember I said that this would be an educational activity.
Step to it Syd!
READ (peruse, study, scrutinize) the recipe so you know what you need and what to do.
CHECK (examine, inspect, survey) the pantry to make sure you have all the necessary ingredients. The only ingredients that are needed for peanut butter and jelly sushi are...you guessed it...bread, peanut butter, jelly. Now that's my kind of recipe!
The level of difficulty = SUPER SIMPLE (uncomplicated)!
GET (obtain, acquire, fetch) your tools: sharp knife (be careful), butter knife, rolling pin, and a cutting board.
Follow the easy step-by-step instructions and by all means SMILE, Syd. Remember, you are trying to add a little bit of sunshine to an otherwise dreary day. :)
Fun food for cool cooks!
Don't limit yourself to the recipes in the book. Think outside the box...I mean...book. Use the recipes as a starting point but let creativity take over.
Syd used the idea of "muddy gardens"...
which reminded us of a rainy day...and instead...turned it into a Day at the Beach Dessert.
