I have done my fair share of laundry in old, dark, cold, spider web infested basements, but in my current home, the laundry room's location on the main floor does make it easier for me.
Laundry isn't the monstrous task it used to be for me. This wasn't always the case, especially when I had more kids at home. When I had a larger family with 2 kids in school plus a baby, 1 kid in football and 1 kid in soccer, yeah I had a lot of laundry to deal with. The circumstances of life for me now with a family of 4, living in a home with the laundry facility on the main floor, have a lot to do with why laundry is an easier task. I have done my fair share of laundry in old, dark, cold, spider web infested basements, but in my current home, the laundry room's location on the main floor does make it easier for me. Another thing that has really helped with easier laundry logistics is actually having the space to put all of the clothing once it has been laundered. I have lived in older homes that had tiny closets, and finding a place to put all of our clothing was an issue. Because I am down to 2 kids left at home, they both have their own bedroom now and each bedroom has decent closet space. Because I have so much closet space, I hang almost everything! I am a die hard "hanger" because I am clothing folder loather. If I can quickly hang a shirt straight from the dryer, it saves me time in folding and ironing. For instance, after washing Sydney's clothes, I put them in the dryer for about 7 minutes and then immediately take them out of the dryer, and onto hangers they go. I hang them outside in the Georgia heat to allow them to dry the rest of way... free heat...and when they dry, they are done. I put them back in her closet, no folding or ironing necessary. Hanging all the clothing I possibly can, straight from the dryer (as soon as the dryer stops, to prevent wrinkling - of the clothes that is, not me), has really helped make laundry an easier task for me. The bonus being wrinkle free clothes AND no folding and putting away in drawers... which frees up space in the drawers for toy storage. Now that I have all the laundry done it's time to pack it away for our trip to PA!
