This is another easy, inexpensive project that uses items that most of us have sitting around the house.
- map of the United States with Native American regions
- 2 cups of salt
- 2 cups of flour
- large bowl
- 2 tablespoons cream of tartar
- piece of cardboard about 12 x 15 inches
- butter knife
- paint and paintbrush (5 different colors)
- paper and pen
(This will definitely make 2, maybe even 3 maps.)
Mix together the flour, salt, cream of tartar and enough water to make a thick dough. My kids had fun mixing it with their hands.
Place the dough on a piece of cardboard and spread it out big enough for the map to fit on.
Press the paper map over the dough and trim off the excess dough with a butter knife.
Use a paintbrush and paint each Native American region a different color. We used watercolor paint.
Here's to project-based learning.
