The project began with prayer of course, followed by pricing the supplies needed for the task. We were going to need a whole lot of paint!
Our little house in Southwoods was in dire need of painting. So this spring we started the monstrous task of planning, preparing and painting the exterior of the house. I say "we" but my darling husband did most of the work himself. I did help him paint along the sides of the house and our son Aaron helped sand and paint the pergola wood. Our daughter Sydney and I made numerous trips to Home Depot for supplies and we helped with the landscaping. The project began with prayer of course, followed by pricing the supplies needed for the task. We were going to need a whole lot of paint! But before the painting could begin, there was a lot of caulking that had to be done. Some of the wood around the corners of the house had to be replaced. The gutters needed to be taken down to make it easier to paint the trim, new gutters would be installed after painting. Then it was time to power wash the siding. The pergola out back needed disassembled. The prep work started in March and by April 21st, Easter Sunday, the actual painting began. The color scheme we chose was Galactic Tint, which is a light grey, for the siding, and Ultra Pure White for the trim. We ordered new black shutters for the front of the house. To our surprise the grey paint looked more like light blue on sunny days, at least until the white trim was painted and black shutters were attached. Some parts of the house were more difficult to paint than others. Bless my sweet husband's dear heart for his willingness to commit to this project and see it through all the way to the end. After the painting was complete, the company we hired to install new gutters and downspout arrived. We were so pleased with the work they did. All of that hard work was well worth the effort! The results were stunning! Aaron helped create and edit an "HGTV" style house reveal video to share with friends and family. I put together a video using a lot of the photos I took to document the project and to reveal the results. Click the button below to see more photos of the house when we moved in 2013.
