I can't believe it but we celebrated Aaron's 19th birthday! Happy birthday buddy! He's a tech / animator / video creator kind of guy. Mostly expressing his artistic side through the use of technology and computer software. So it's no surprise that he chose a tech-video game-video creator themed party. Very similar to last year. Some things don't change. We took him out to look around at the latest tech gear and plushies they were selling at Target. He requested his dad's special grilled double cheeseburger and macaroni salad for his birthday dinner. He chose his dad's special peanut butter cup cheesecake for dessert. I guess it's pretty obvious who the chef is around this house. That stuff is incredibly decadent and guilty of being too darn delicious. He opened his gifts and we played a card game of Hand and Foot with Linn and Eric until it was dark enough for fireworks. I remember the days of LEGO building with this sweetheart. Now he's building his own custom designed computer. Where has the time gone? Cherish every moment with the kids, they grow up so fast! Happy Birthday Aaron!

I can't believe we're celebrating Alex's 10th birthday already! His first double digit birthday! My goodness where has the time gone? I can't believe he's sporting a man bun either! Kids these days! :) He chose Minecraft for the theme of his party. I purchased the plates and napkins from Party City. The Steve head was a hand-me-down from Aaron when he dressed up as Steve for Halloween one year. He requested country fried steak, mashed potatoes, macaroni & cheese, corn and green beans for his special birthday dinner. This put me in mind of a meal served at Cracker Barrel. After dinner it was time to go on a treasure hunt to find his birthday gift. Pappy is always good at making up interesting and funny clues to help him find the treasure. Of course opening up the gifts is the best part of any birthday party! Who wants some orange creamsicle cake? It's time for a round of Apples to Apples! Happy birthday Alex! We love you! Today I thought I would share a video game birthday party idea for those avid video game enthusiasts in our lives. So first things first: When I plan a themed birthday party, which in this case was for my video game loving son, I look around the house for any video games, systems, or toy characters that would compliment the theme. Aaron and I pulled a lot of his Wii games off the shelf, brought down a flat screen tv that was in another room to create a Wii / Wii-U gaming center stationed in the dining room. Along with that, he brought out his hand held gaming systems and a little Pac-Man arcade game that he had. In the living room area we set up a retro Atari station to play those old games that I grew up with, hooked up his Xbox 360 to play Madden on the big screen, and created another station for Nintendo Wii Mario & Luigi games. Last but not least, he rolled out his brand new black and red gaming chair that he recently purchased. He also has a love for puppetry, animations, characters and movies so I incorporated some of those elements into the decor to help make it a fun atmosphere. I purchased simple, inexpensive, birthday plates, napkins, cups and banners at the Dollar Tree. My darling husband baked a triple layer, orange cream birthday cake for the celebration. Planning and preparing this video game themed birthday party was literally a piece of cake! Happy birthday Aaron! A little side note: His birthday was July 5th, so the party was held on the Fourth of July. The added party bonus was the fireworks display the neighbors were putting off next door. ;) His birthday party went off with a bang!
