Alex's 12th Birthday Party - Beach / Lu-Wow Party Theme - Water Balloon Battle - Orange Creamsicle Beach Cake
We just celebrated Alex's 12th birthday! YAY! He is really growing up!
This year he chose a beach / Hawaiian luau theme for the party. We all dressed accordingly.
His mom went all out for the decorations. She took him out shopping for party supplies, and they brought the party to our house. They did a great job decorating!
He requested stuffed crust pizza and breadsticks from Pizza Hut, and his mom delivered the goods. She also made some Hawaiian pineapple and ham kabobs.
After dinner it was time to play Apples to Apples, and then it was outside for an epic water balloon battle.
Aaron packed water balloons in his pockets for quick ammunition reload. Too funny!!
I made him his favorite orange creamsicle cake, adding a beach theme to it for fun.
The beach scene consisted of his mom sitting on a beach blanket, taking pictures, while sipping sweet tea out of a golden goblet. Alex had a mysterious pack of dynamite in his backpack, not so sure what he was planning to do with it, but he was catching fish. Eric was out in the ocean, in a boat, being chased by a shark.
Time to open presents!
Happy birthday Alex! I hope you enjoy your special day!
Weekly Highlights: Honor Roll, 2nd & Charles, Meal Ideas, Cornbread Muffin Recipe, Grocery Deals, Pool Fun
Welcome to mom life in the little house in Southwoods, summer edition, where I'm sharing some of the fun, and the productive things our family has been doing during this season.
We have some exciting news to announce!
Sydney received her report card in the mail from the Abeka Academy and not only did she pass 9th grade, but she also received recognition for her superior work. She made the honor roll! All of her hard work has paid off. She achieved her goal! We are so proud of her!
To honor her achievement she was given the choice of where she wanted to go out to eat for lunch... she chose Chick-fil-A because she LOVES their mac and cheese. Aaron was digging the spicy chicken sandwich as much as I was.
We also ordered her a Bamboo Lap Desk that will make it easier for her to work on projects in her room and in the car. Congratulations Miss Sydney on your academic achievement! You certainly went above and beyond!
We also took a trip to 2nd & Charles where you can buy new and used stuff. You never know what you'll find. It's a fun afternoon of treasure hunting.
The store is HUGE, bigger than I remembered it being.
Weekly Meal Ideas: Some of the meals I made were...
Copycat Cracker Barrel Cornbread Muffin Recipe
3/4 cup yellow cornmeal
1 1/4 cup self rising flour

Making the most of the summer season.
Weekly Highlights: So Many Reptiles - Cleaning Project - Little Women - Fun Shapes with Rice Krispie Treats
Welcome to another summer edition of weekly highlights. This week I took my grandson Alex out for a fun reptile adventure. We visited Exotic Envy Reptiles and Land & Sea Exotic Pets. He was very familiar with Land & Sea Exotic Pets. In fact he gave me a tour of the place and I was amazed at his vast knowledge of reptiles.
We saw so many amazing reptiles, amphibians, snakes and arachnids.
We were both able to pet the Green Tree Monitor. The blue iguana was super cool to see in person.
It was an enjoyable and educational trip. I'm so glad we were able to spend some time together, and that Alex could share his love of reptiles with me.
Summer Cleaning Projects: I am trying to go through my kitchen cupboards and pantry to de-clutter and reorganize them again. Syd ran the vacuum on the living room furniture. We recently had the carpets cleaned so I know it's still clean underneath the furniture.
This week's lunch and a movie for Syd and I featured a simple pizza-popcorn-pineapple lunch and the movie Little Women.
This week's baking project actually didn't require any baking. We made Rice Krispie Treats in flower and butterfly shapes. We added a little pizazz to them by decorating them with icing, sprinkles, and colored sugar.
Here's to summer time adventures!
