Being a "homeschooler" doesn't mean, at least for us, that we are sitting around eating bon bons, living the good life, playing the day away. I wish it really was that fun and easy! However the reality of it is more like a daily sacrifice of your time, money, resources and sometimes your precious sanity, to provide a God honoring education for your children in a godless world.
Yes, some days I want my kids on the yellow school bus ASAP because that would be much easier for me, but a conviction is a conviction and so my lot in life is to be a homeschooler unless the Lord changes His will for me.
It hasn't been easy but it has been well worth it. The relationships that our kids have with the Lord, with each other, and with us, makes it WAY worth all the blood, sweat and tears.
This year, because we were going to be moving during the school year, coupled with a lot of "unknowns", we prayerfully decided to enroll Aaron and Sydney into the A Beka Academy independent, video program. Independent means that, we as the parents, are in total control of their education and can use the materials and the videos as we see fit.
The benefit for us in using this program was two fold. First and foremost, this would be a biblically based Christian education, that was within our budget. Secondly, all of their classes would be taught to them by master teachers through video classes, freeing me to take more of an administrative role, rather than "teaching" (which would require more of me than I had the time to give with moving to a new area and needing to teach two separate grades, etc.).
It worked out well for all involved. No matter what crazy circumstances any given day would bring, the video teachers were always totally prepared to teach our kids, no matter what! The consistency and stability ~ a life saver for me.
Without further ado, let's meet the teachers.
