So what exactly is a day in my life as a home executive/homeschooler like? I've got a one word answer for you... BUSY! :)
Aaron's pre-algebra class starts with a homework presentation, review of previous material that was taught, new material teaching with class practice. Then he is assigned sharpening skills problems to practice for homework. Below is a demo of of Aaron's Pre-Algebra class with Mrs. Howe. She is a great math teacher! She really knows her stuff, and knows how to teach the stuff she knows to others! Aaron had her for 7th grade too, and will have her again for Algebra in 9th grade as well. Three years with Mrs. Howe will provide Aaron with a very strong background in Arithmetic skills.
I love Mrs. Schmuck's bulletin board displays too.
Sydney starts her first reading class for the day right after math. The teacher goes over any vocabulary words that they need to understand in the story, and then they read a chapter out of the current reader. She moves on to Language class where they learn the different grammar/punctuation rules of the English Language. Below is a quick demo of Syd's Language class with Mrs. Achuff.
Aaron starts his Science class with Mr. Enders. Mr. Enders does a super great of job teaching this class. He makes learning Science fun and interesting. Below is a sample demo of Aaron's Science class and pics of some neat things that Mr. Enders uses to teach concepts. His chalkboard drawings are awesome!
From about 3:15 - 4:30 it is everyone's free time, including ME. I may tackle an afternoon house chore - love on my home for 20 - 30 minutes by either vacuuming, polishing furniture, sweeping floors, putting laundry away, baking cookies or muffins or some type of dessert....depending on the day. I also like to sit down for 30 minutes and read a chapter from the current book that I am studying, and have another cup of coffee, thank the Lord for bringing us through a very productive day.
By 4:45 - 5:30 it is time to prepare supper. Clint gets home from work around 5:30, so we eat around 5:45.
At 7:30 it is time for the kids to tackle their homework. Sydney's work doesn't take more than 20-30 minutes tops. She may have to practice her spelling words, work on a short math assignment, read a few pages from her current reader. Aaron usually has about an hour's worth of homework, sometimes a bit more depending on if he has any tests to study for or any map or Science projects to work on.
Around 8:30 it is time for me to get a shower, and for Syd to get a bath and get ready for bed. Aaron will get ready when he is finished with his homework. I like to grab a load of dirty clothes to put into the washer so that the clothes are ready to be washed the next morning. I also try to remember to unload the dishwasher and put the clean dishes away to help make the morning go smoothly.
From 9:00 - 10:00, depending on the day, we may watch a television show. Our favorites are mainly cooking shows like Beat Bobby Flay, Cutthroat Kitchen, or Chopped. The kids may want to watch a Disney show like Dog with a Blog or a TLC show like 19 Kids and Counting or The Little Couple. That's it.
It is 10:00 and TIME FOR BED!
Well, that's the scoop on what a day in the life of this home executive/homeschooler looks like. It is busy but it is a blessing!
