All of our A Beka Academy materials have arrived! That didn't take long. The fun begins for some of us...others tend to get overwhelmed by this. No need to get overwhelmed.
It is tempting to rip open all of the boxes and set all of those books free BUT...
It is less stressful and more productive to start by opening one box at a time, removing the books, cutting away the shrink wrap, pulling out that all important book list that's located at the bottom of each box. Use that list for inventory purposes. Check off each individual item that is enclosed. Don't skip this part.
I repeat ~ Inventory your books to verify that all items are enclosed.
Take your time, there's no hurry. There are a lot of books to check off the list. If you have more than two children in the program, this could take several hours. Take a break if need be but take the time to do this.
If you do find any materials missing, contact A Beka Academy immediately. Missing items reported after 60 days will not be replaced, so it is important to take the time to do this as soon as the shipments arrive. Correcting the problem is just a phone call away.
Don't get rid of any of the boxes that the DVDs are packed in. They have to be returned in their original boxes.
After the inventory is complete, give yourself a pat on the back for a job well done. It is time to move onto the next step, which I will save for another blog post. That's enough for today. There's no need to be overwhelmed.
We made it back from Las Vegas in time to attend the A Beka Book/Academy materials display. It was a great opportunity to sit down with our A Beka Book representative and discuss the courses for the upcoming school year.
This year my sweet teen will join the ranks of high school, which means...every credit counts...it's going to go by quickly...it's time to start thinking ahead. This is going by way too fast for me already! Long gone are the days of sitting with Aaron for hours drawing, coloring, and cutting out VeggieTale characters. I do miss those days but I am excited to see what the future holds for him.
At the materials display we were also able to see all of the books and materials that will make up the 9th grade course of study.
Aaron was officially enrolled and accepted into the A Beka Academy accredited program for 9th grade.
Little Miss Sydney was able to see all of the books and materials that she will be using this year in 4th grade. She, of course, had quite the sentimental look on her face as she looked back at the 3rd grade material. She ALWAYS has a hard time moving forward in the beginning of the school year because she gets attached to the previous teacher (and books), and misses her for the first week or so. Then slowly but surely she gets used to the new teacher, and proudly proclaims her undying love and devotion to her too. :) This year she will actually have two new teachers to love.
Her course of study for 4th grade:
I am responsible for teaching her a six week state history study. Teaching Georgia's history and geography is new territory for me since we've only lived here for a year. I purchased my materials way in advance so I can be prepared.
Bring on that GIANT book order!
